the thing about moving is you keep finding bits of stuff, gig tickets, wrapping paper scraps, gift tags, old birthday cards that you'd kept to remind you of certain people and places. i've even got a box of dried rose heads from the time i was met off the train by a young man with a bunch of flowers. things you forget until you find them in the back of the cupboard. stolen sweets from house parties and cups of tea at 2am whilst watching bad music tv. it's been weird these last 3 years in manchester, it doesn't seem so long. i think the point of this was just to say that despite events and fuck ups, things are remembered and appreciated, even if the people who instigated them may have forgotten. and that ruth, yes, there is a good reason for me having so much stuff.

so, friday was the last exam so now i'm teetering on the edge of actually being a proper grown up. job things are just about sorted, off to birmingham to sign things the last week of june and the barcelona trip looks back on so i've got to get the passport sorted as well as pack up the stuff in the house. found a flat today which is lovely, top end of the budget but i think it's worth it and plus it means ruth can move in straight from halls. still gonna be in fallowfield but we're right on the main road so it's not gonna be too much hassle getting back on the night bus. just need to get all the forms filled in now.

seems a while since i updated, i can only really blame it on my laziness and the evils of dissertation. but yes, i'm not dead, although i've not been out and about in manchester that much. spent a fair bit of time in sheffield which only having 2 hours of lectures on a thursday afternoon and 2 on a friday morning allows me to do.

spent the first week of easter writing the dissertation, managed to get it all written by the tuesday of the second week although most of the time was spent sifting through all my source material again. after much re-drafting it was finally handed in yesterday although god knows what jeremy tambling will make of it. my uncle was very sweet and sent me a big parcel of holmes type stuff. david claims i'm 'the son my uncle never had' coz i like books and wine and david doesn't really go in for that.

easter was spent at home, fairly quiet. ruth took over the bedroom and moaned about how many essays she had to do without actually doing them. popped back to manchester with liam to see goldfrapp at the ritz who were AMAZING. i was gonna wear my sparkly red shoes but decided in the end that my feet just wouldn't be able to cope. sound at the ritz was much better than coxon although i could have done without the bloke who does the xfm breakfast show introducing the acts in a moronic mid-90s manc way.

had a trip to london with ruth on the thursday of the last week to do the camden crawl with sam. arrived mid afternoon, met nick to collect tickets and then wandered round the british museum for a bit. then walked round soho and covent garden before getting the bus which goes past loads of london sites to sam's. think ruth was impressed. spent most of camden crawl in the electric ballroom as last year proved that it's impossible to move between venues. saw the young knives, larrikin love, shit disco, plan b and dirty pretty things. spent most of the evening drinking pints as they weren't as extortionate as spirits, saw sadie frost who was tiny and looking shockingly rough and then went to woody's grill for fit kebabs (i promise such a thing exists). the plan was to go see pink grease at koko but the queue was stupily long so just ended up getting the night bus home. bumped into a just-turned-30 nick at the bus stop and offered to sing happy birthday but he declined. did portabello, baker street, oxford circus topshop and soho with ruth on friday before running across town to put her on the train. saturday was the zoo in battersea park, drinks with sam and the boy in clapham and then spent the evening at nick and paul's. back to sheffield on sunday to collapse in a heap.

went to clique last night, simon price was djing and he was awful. damien and ian are much more fun. jack turned up and decided to talk to me. don't think i'll be getting my money back, think i'm one in a long line. it was just rather nice to tell him how great everything is at the moment seeing as he was such a complete shit when we were going out. left about 2am for a trip to spar with ruth and then drunkenly clmbed the 9 flights of stairs to james'.

so yes, things at the moment are good. the dissertation's handed in and my first exam's in 3 weeks. can't believe everything's over in 4 weeks. :S but i got my popular narratives essay back yesterday and got 78% for it which is amazing as i thought i'd screwed it up coz of the dissertation stress. i've never got over 68% for an essay and wated to get at least one first before i graduated. very happy i got a mark that's quite a bit over it. :D job also seems to be sorted, just a few details to finalise. seems i'm doing the summercase festival in barcelona and madrid mid july so that'll be fun if a bit scary. it's the weekend after graduation so it'll be a treat even if i do have to work. must get the passport renewed though. all that needs sorting now is a flat for ruth and i but it can wait til after the exams.

just back from seeing the boosh in sheffield and if was the bestthingeverinages! sat 3 rows from the front so noel was so close i could have touched him if my arms were a tad longer. did mean we ended up getting showered in cockney piss but it was worth it. noel fielding is indeed beautful. not that i'm shallow but he was just perfect *sighs* but yes the show was brilliant, especially the hitcher and old greg who i thought wasn't gonna be in it at all! what else, what else? don't wanna give too much away for people who haven't seen it but the rabbit game was very funny as was an interesting pete doherty impression. right, i'll stop rambling and go to bed. got to head back to manchester tomorrow for aesthetes and decadents lecture. read the walter pater a few weeks ago but i'll have another glance on the train home. not sure if i really understand it but then again i'm never sure if i'm completely meant to.

oh, and most of today was spent trying to fix the toilet which meant fiddling around with the ballcock. i should be mature enough for this not to amuse me but sadly i failed.

so, back in sheffield for a few days as i've run out of food and money in manchester and the thought of a clean house was rather too appealing. that said i did have an urge to go to smile last night but resisted (being at least an hours train ride away) and contented myself with the mighty boosh series two and three bottles of red wine. called it a night about 2am when mark fell asleep on the sofa and i had to call him a taxi. random conversations last night threw up the fact that he'd gone to primary school with sam and they'd been in a band together when they were about 10. bless! i wonder if mr dawson knows he in fact kick started sheffield's musical revival?

today i will do some uni work, oh yes. maybe.

my plan for the day had been to get up early and do lots of reading. instead i stumbled out of bed about 10, went to town to renew my railcard and buy the boosh and have thus spent the afternoon watching mr fielding. i hadn't realised it had sweet on! the sight of noel in a blue elephant posing pouch was *almost* a bit too much. i might have to get an imaginary boyfriend, seems like fun. as it is my fake boyfriend is off to texas for sxsw in a few weeks and i'm jealous as hell!

tomorrow shall be filled with walter pater and rebecca. woo!

what am i meant to do if my dissertation supervisor turns out to be an utter cunt, rips the heart out of my plan and leaves me on the verge of tears? he did the same to al although i don't think he cried. argh! i might just tell him to fuck it and do it any way.

hmm, haven't updated this for a few weeks mainly due to revision being over and me not needing to be distracted! exams were ok but 3 hour things are never fun, especially when they make up 100% of the final mark. give me a good essay any day! not sure when i get the results but i'm trying not to think about that.

headed straight back to sheffield post exams with the odea of having a relaxing few days. sunday morning had an email from mark asking if i wanted guestlist for the arctic monkeys leadmill show as harrisons were supprting. sunday night was thus spent drinking far too much, pretending to be mark's girlfriend and getting slightly freaked out by how busy the leadmill was. rest of sheffield trip was fairly quiet, finished off post-colonial essay, paid mum back what i owed and ate everything possible in the fridge.

returned to manchester thursday and spent thurs evening at BYOP at the roadhouse as harrison's were doing the tour support. for a venue so small i failed miserably in finding nick. BYOP were great live although very quiet in real life and i hadn't realised how tiny jemina was. hung out were her dad afterwards which was weird and then headed home just after midnight as killing fantasy seemed too far a walk.

friday afternoon headed down to london with nick and spent a fantastic few days with him and paul shopping and watching the celebrity big brother final. their new flat's beautiful and i'm very jealous! met up with katt and issa at a pub in kentish town for katt's 21st. slightly weird evening but memorable.

currently in the middle of reading week, spent yesterday morning getting a million books in the library before meeting ruth for lunch and then jack for a coffee. i'd forgotten how much i miss having him around but i think we're gonna try harder at keeping in touch. coombis was up yesterday evening so went out for a meal with him and then ended up at the kooks as did ruth but by different means.
